ComForcare Home Care Now Offering International Franchise Opportunities

By kristan

Bloomfield Hills, MI August 1, 2012 – ComForcare Home Care has many franchise locations in the United States and invites prospective home care franchise owners to learn more about its exciting international opportunities and join its award-winning team.

“We are pleased to offer international franchise opportunities to prospective business partners outside the United States.  There is a great need for home care services throughout the world. ComForcare offers the tools and resources people need to build a successful business providing these services to their communities,” said ComForcare Home Care President Mark Armstrong.

Older adults often have to depend on others for assistance with the activities of daily living. This fact, along with the growing number of people living with one or more chronic illnesses such as arthritis, diabetes, or Alzheimer’s, will greatly increase the need for home care providers internationally.

The need for assistance for the aging population is putting intense strain on the “Sandwich Generation,” a label placed on the millions of people who juggle their aging parents’ and children’s competing needs. They will need quality home care services to turn to as their parents’ needs for assistance increase and ComForcare business owners provide the professional caregivers families need to assist their loved ones with daily tasks.

With a high-growth potential due to the increasing older population, the demand for home care services will continue to grow around the world.  As ComForcare franchise owners, people have the opportunity to make a difference in their community through a noble profession – caring for others.

Home Care Services Growing for Father-Son Team in Orinda

By kristan

Home care service is an emerging business in the Bay Area of California.  The McCalla father-son team opened up an independently-owned ComForcare Home Care franchise in Orinda, California, and they are excited about its growth as they continue welcome new home care clients within their community.

Located east of San Francisco, California, Orinda is an ideal location for a home care business thanks to the large population of older adults.  ComForcare Home Care was featured in The Orinda News when it opened.  The following excerpt from the article gives some great insight into its success:

The father and son team of Vern McCalla, Sr. and Vern McCalla, Jr. delivers highly-trained, professional home care to the homebound individual.  They provide a range of home care services from companionship to meal preparation to hands-on personal care 24 hours a day.

ComForcare home care services include home companions, personal care aids, home health aides, certified nurse aides, and 24-hour live-in assistants.  These services are available anytime:  24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  Whether an individual is suffering from a long-term illness, recovering from an injury or coping with aging, ComForcare provides the support necessary to lead a dignified life.  Home care providers are screened with a ten-step hiring process and are licensed, bonded and insured.

ComForcare Home care is a non-medical company and does not administer medications.  Family members are responsible for all medications.  An initial nurse’s assessment is conducted prior to assigning a home care provider to an individual.  This assessment is free of charge and addresses such issues as the individual’s balance, gait, and range of motion, as well as memory evaluation.

“Our experience has been that often the family recognizes a need and often the elder does not want any help.  We consult on what we think should be happening,” explains Vern McCalla, Jr., who manages the office and hires the caregivers.  While the focal point of ComForcare is seniors, home care is also provided for children with disabilities.

“The value of staying at home for a senior is to be able to age in place.  People enjoy staying in their home where things are familiar.  It tends to make the rest of their life an easier transition than if they are displaced,” he adds.

Three levels of care are offered.  The first level is considered companion home care, the second level is a home health aide who is trained in personal care and meal preparation, and the third is a certified nursing assistant who is able to assist with bedside service such as turning an individual in bed.

“We are able to deal with a person at any stage of mobility.  We work with the Hospice of East Bay.  Every three to four months a hospice nurse provides in-service training to our caregivers,” explains Vern McCalla Jr.

“It is a good feeling to work with my son after watching him work hard at Miramonte High School and the University of Oregon.  Today, I see him put the skills he has learned to good use helping other people,” says Vern McCalla Sr.  “He brings positive things to our business including office management and a knack for hiring excellent people.  My skills are in marketing and sales,” he adds.

The McCallas have lived in Orinda for 20 years and immensely enjoy owning a business together.  For more information about ComForcare, visit www.ComForcare.com.

Home Care Service Helping Individuals in Birmingham

By kristan

Using home care services is becoming a popular choice for aging individuals and couples who wish to continue living independently in their own home.  To address this need, ComForcare Home Care is opening new franchise locations throughout the United States.  Home care is one of the fastest growing industries in the country and ComForcare Home Care franchises are among the most highly-ranked for success, support and owner satisfaction.

Many savvy entrepreneurs have already opened an independently owned ComForcare home care franchise and are pleased with their success and growth.  Here is the story of one franchise owner, Lynellen Mallet, who opened her ComForcare home care business in Birmingham, Alabama in 2010.  The story was featured in the Birmingham News:

Lynellen Mallett knows the challenges the elderly and disabled face when living alone. After working as an insurance underwriter for Protective Life in Birmingham, Mallett moved into the home health care field at Coram Healthcare and as a member of the Visiting Nursing Association.

Last August, Mallett and her husband, Chuck, moved back to metro Birmingham, where they had spent 15 years before his job moved him to Houston, to launch a Birmingham office of ComForcare Home Care. It provides non-medical assistance for seniors, the disabled and others needing help doing daily chores, or cooking.  Mallett admits she was nervous about starting a business in a crowded field during a recession, but she says the response so far has been strong.

“It was a little scary, but I knew there was a need as our population is aging,” she said.

For years, Mallett saw her mother care for her elderly grandmother. While living in Texas the past few years, she assisted her husband in caring for his aging parents, who suffered from heart problems and Alzheimer’s.

“I understood the tremendous need to provide in-home care and support to family caregivers,” Mallett said. “As a result, I was drawn to the home care field.”

ComForcare is part of a growing demand for services among metro Birmingham’s aging population, said Gretchen McDaniel, a professor at Samford University’s Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing. Nursing graduates are now opting not only for careers working in hospitals and doctor clinics, but also as caregivers in home settings, she said.

“There are a lot of elderly people who don’t require hospitalization, but need assistance keeping their medicines straight or doing simple things around the home,” McDaniel said. “Years ago as parents aged, families had sons and daughters around to help them. Families are all spread out around the country now so there is a bigger demand for caregivers.”

Mallett said ComForcare Home Care Services focuses on chronic disease management and has rigorous hiring criteria for caregivers. It also has a nurse or social worker on staff to develop individualized plans for clients.

“We are glad to be back in Alabama,” said Mallett, whose husband is a vice president of merchandising for Birmingham-based Hibbett Sporting Goods.

ComForcare Reminds Seniors They Are Never Too Old to Play

By kristan

Home care service providers such as ComForcare Home Care believe no one is ever too old to play and ComForcare encourages clients of all ages to live an active and full life. Those receiving services from a home care agency benefit from personal and homemaking assistance, and their caregivers also help them enjoy the activities they love.

With warmer weather here, encourage the older adults in your life to get out and enjoy each day. Here are a few suggestions of activities you can share with a spouse, family member or a home care client:

  • Go dancing. Get out on the town with friends and go dancing for an evening. Check out the dance classes offered at your local community or senior center.
  • Go for a walk. Whether it is around the block or around the park, get outdoors and enjoy fresh air each day. Plan to walk in the early morning or evening to avoid the midday heat.
  • Get moving. Ask a friend to join you in a game of racquetball or golf, or try a yoga or tai chi class. Many health clubs offer exercise classes specifically for seniors, so ask for a schedule and get active.
  • Host a garden party. Get your hands dirty in the garden and plant beautiful flowers. Consider having a garden party with your friends and neighbors to show off your hard work.

Do you have an older loved one who would benefit from fresh air and movement?  Many home care and elderly care providers help seniors enjoy the outdoors with walks and gardening and offer transportation assistance to and from appointments or social and community events. ComForcare encourages home care clients to enjoy their golden years and plan fun activities and spend time with their families.

Home Care Services Offer Solutions

By kristan

Home care services can be the perfect solution for families who need a way to support aging loved ones who prefer to continue living in the comfort of their own home.  Each day, thousands of people are faced with the issue of finding the right assistance for their family members and do not know where to start.  This can be especially difficult for someone who is acting as the sole caregiver for a parent, grandparent, spouse or sibling.

If you think a loved one may need help, there are steps to take to ensure you find the best assistance they need. But how do you know it is time?

-          Have you noticed your loved one is having difficulty with daily tasks such as bathing, ambulation, preparing meals and managing medication?

-          Have you discussed your concerns with other family members?

-          Have you shared your observations with your loved one?

Once you have discussed your observations and concerns with your family members and your loved one, it is time to weigh your options.

-          Does your loved one need full-time medical or elderly care services from a skilled nursing center?

-          Would home care services allow your loved one to continue living comfortably in his or her own home?

-          What other home care support do you have?  Are family members available to provide care or will you need to rely solely on an elder care or home care service?

If you and your loved one decide that home care services are the best option, you can work together to find the right caregiver.

-          Do you want to hire an independent caregiver or work with an agency?  Do you understand the benefits of using a home care agency?

-          What are your loved one’s specific needs?   Would a few visits a week be sufficient or is daily and/or around-the-clock assistance necessary?

Home care service providers at ComForcare help families to explore and understand their options and find the best solution for their loved one’s care needs. Whether you are helping a loved one manage a chronic disease, recover from an injury or serious illness, or want to find someone to assist with everyday personal and household tasks when you can’t be there, home care services can help every step of the way.

To learn more about home care services, find the ComForcare location in your area at www.ComForcare.com.  Experienced, trained, compassionate and dependable ComForcare caregivers are available to support your family and provide your loved ones with the care they need to live a healthy, happy and independent life.

Home Care Services Can Support Eco-Friendly, Healthier Behaviors

By kristan

Home care services help their elderly care clients improve their lives so they can be healthier and happier.

As we move into summer, having already celebrated Earth Day, Arbor Day, and May Day, it is a great time to consider taking steps to help improve your health and the environment. There are things you can do on your own, with your family, or with your home care service provider that will contribute to a healthier and more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Here are five tips from a recent article on Yahoo! Health:

1.    Drink filtered water. There are at least 315 pollutants in tap water in America, according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Use carbon-based filters at home to protect your water.

2.    Eat organic foods. The EWG created a list of the 12 fruits and vegetables that have the highest pesticide levels: apples, celery, strawberries, peaches, spinach, nectarines (imported), grapes (imported), sweet bell peppers, potatoes, blueberries (domestic), lettuce and kale or collard greens. Buy the organic version of these foods to reduce your pesticide exposure by almost 80 percent.  It is never too late to improve your eating habits.

3.    Eat a variety of unprocessed whole foods and grains. Eating a variety of fruits, vegetables and grains reduces your risk of unknowingly ingesting large quantities of toxins from unsafe food products. They are also better for your health and digestion.  Ask your home care provider to assist you in purchasing or serving more whole foods and fresh produce.

4.    Use more natural cleaning products. Conventional cleaners leave toxic residue, produce poisonous runoff that affects the water supply and waste plastic. Use cleaning products with recognizable ingredients without the words “danger” or “poison” on the label or make your own low-impact cleaning products with baking soda or vinegar.  Home care clients care speak with their home care service about which products are used in the home and can partner to make the transition to low-impact cleaners.

5.    Go organic for cotton.  Conventional cotton is sprayed with about 25 percent of the world’s insecticides and more than 10 percent of the pesticides, and these chemicals are still present when you purchase it.  Children and seniors may be especially sensitive to treated fabrics, so try to find organic options whenever possible to protect delicate skin.

Ask Your Home Care Service to Partner with You

Home care services can partner with seniors to help them incorporate more of these ideas into their lifestyle.  Many home care and elderly care service providers offer nutrition assistance and would be happy to discuss ways each client and their family can support a more balanced approach to eating.

Greensboro ComForcare Home Care Services Receives “Best of Home Care” Award

By teamsf

GREENSBORO, NC, June 1, 2012 – ComForcare Home Care Services today announced that it has been recognized with Home Care Pulse’s “Best of Home Care” distinction. Awarded to the top 25% of agencies in client and employee satisfaction scores from Home Care Pulse, ComForcare Home Care is now ranked among a select few of the best agencies in the country.

“We know that sometimes it is difficult to make care decisions when you don’t have specific experience with an agency. It was our goal to provide families with the ability to make an informed decision, have tangible ways to measure quality and help them find a comfort level when choosing an agency to work with,” commented Aaron Marcum, founder of Home Care Pulse.

Home Care Pulse, a company which measures client and employee satisfaction, created the award to identify those agencies in the private duty home care space that demonstrated a passion for client and employee satisfaction. Home Care Pulse believes that honoring such companies can both educate and help families to make better care decisions for their aging loved ones.

“We chose Home Care Pulse to survey all of our clients and employees about our level of performance and responsiveness to market demands and needs,” says Richard Bober, owner of ComForcare Home Care Services in Greensboro, NC. “With this information, we have learned to make improvements and adjustments to our operations. Our goal is to be the premiere provider of in-home/non-medical services in the greater Guilford County area,” continues Mr. Bober. “The best method to do this is by surveying our clients and employees with a third party agency; and that’s what Home Care Pulse follows through on.”

The selection process for the “Best of Home Care” includes the evaluation of client and employee satisfaction in areas such as agency training, communication, overall quality of care, caregiver performance, caregiver morale, response to problems and recommendation of services to name a few.

“We want to congratulate ComForcare Home Care of Greensboro, NC for winning the “Best of Home Care” award and commend their commitment to placing high priority on client and employee satisfaction,” concluded Marcum.
